it follows (the last party before penitential lent)

'I think that if one is faced by inevitable destruction -- if a house is falling upon you, for instance -- one must feel a great longing to sit down, close one's eyes and wait, come what may...' - dostoyevsky, the idiot (as quoted in it follows).

so horsemouth has rewatched it follows (he's on about his third or fourth watch of it). it is set in the suburbs, haddonfield type teens attract the attention of a sexually transmitted curse, horla  style. it follows, but it can only walk, you can drive, but eventually it will show up and walk towards you. only you will be able to see it. to purge the curse you must pass it on. but if it gets that person it will come looking for you.

the velma character in the crew is reading dostoyevsky's the idiot on her e-reader (style to look like a make-up compact). at the beginning and at the end she quotes it. halloween looms large. there are some driving scenes like evil dead, there is an ending like the swimming pool scene  in cat people. it is stunning to look at (in the style of geoffrey crewdson) and to listen to (a carpenterish synth soundtrack but more sensuous less cold).

to purge the creature finally they must go to eight mile on the abandoned edge of the city of detroit. the curse comes in the form of members of her family. our central character does not feel the fatalism of dostoyevsky. instead her and her friends fight.

yesterday horsemouth forgot to attend a zoom meeting (and then left his phone downstairs). oops. but no harm done.

he is slouching around recovering from fahey week and trying to avoid watching the news. tomorrow and the day after jackson c. frank days. phew. he was just reminded to move up the calendars.

it is mardi gras (fat tuesday). the last party before penitential lent (before ash wednesday).  (as far as horsemouth understands it). mardi gras can come much earlier (as early as february 9th it would appear). yesterday he spent a little time working on wondrous love.
