horsemouth can't pretend he won't miss it

horsemouth (in his tidying up preparatory to moving) has found his communal endeavour share certificate (10th may 1998).

he has thus been a member of the endeavour ever since  so we are talking 27 years of life in hackney, columbia road, pop(U)lar.

before that he was about 10 years in hackney 85-95, a year in brixton (thanks mark and debs), a month in ladbroke grove, back to hackney, brick lane, old street etc.

before that 3 years at university (about which the less said the better).

so roughly 43 years in the great wen - the best part of 40 years eastside.

horsemouth can't pretend he won't miss it

left to himself he would have stayed (he thinks) but that was not to be. here vast workings next door. horsemouth has done a number of trips to the clothes recycling bin and a couple up the hill to the book-box.

ok 1403 now - not back on til 1800. ok he lasted until 1647.

in coetzee world coetzee is up to his old tricks;

'coetzee has asked me to revise my essay. it sticks in his craw: he wants it blander...'  - j.m. coetzee, the vietnam project in dusklands.

so the central character tells us about 'coetzee' (and in a negative way). there's writing (academic writing).  instead horsemouth read the second  story about coetzee's ancestor.

in the cold light of morning there is simply too much stuff. horsemouth hasn't got it all bagged yet (and then there's finding a vehicle and driver to get it there).  we are talking the accumulated shite and detritus of 43 years. (ok there have been some purges in the past).

the way round the regret is to think about the positive opportunities that the move offers.
