'an ever memorable day in my life. I went to the vicarage at 10 o'clock and had a long talk with him on the lawn about my attachment to daisy. ways, means and prospects...' - kilvert, on this day in 1871.
kilvert wants to marry daisy thomas. her father is not encouraging (but he's not discouraging either). kilvert feels quite low afterwards.
no thoreau for a while (at least not from the stapleton a writer's journal). non-stop is done (horsemouth pronounces it most enjoyable). outlaw bookseller says the hero in non-stop is similar to the hero in hothouse - a small grumpy man unleashed on the world.
yesterday horsemouth dug up some potatoes. he went over to ewyas harold to pick up the hereford times.
this morning the black cat was out hunting on the banking. the chickens are considerably noisier now that there are more of them. horsemouth has gone back to resembling middle-aged goya, fleshy, slightly exhausted.
last night he watched some of jean-pierre melville's le samourai - alain delon as contract killer in a grey and seedy paris (immaculate control of the colour palette, immaculate music by roublaix). the only fly in horsemouth's ointment was that it had been dubbed into russian.
today probably egg delivery.
monday a TESCO delivery.
