'the humblest, cheapest, least dignified man in the village...'

'there is some advantage in being the humblest, cheapest, least dignified man in the village...'

- thoreau, diaries, on this date in 1851

'what have we to offer the world besides the superabundant loot which we recklessly plunder from the earth under the maniacal delusion that this insane activity represents progress and enlightenment?'  - henry miller, the air-conditioned nightmare.

anais nin (somewhere in volume two horsemouth thinks) visits maupassant's house in brittany, in the garden was a boat that had been swept there by a storm (she says) and turned into a toolshed.

later anais realises this is where her desire to own a canal boat comes from.

(horsemouth wonders why he is interested in this transformation of boat into house and into house-boat).

today john fromporto is supposed to visit. horsemouth thinks he'll do a quick foodshop tomorrow morning.

this evening the mancom.

yesterday horsemouth got in his wander round with TG in early.

further to this morning's conversation what's this thing with contiguity then? do people mean conjuncture? (horsemouth wants a demystification.)

then he returned home to eat having finished off the cheese in the morning.  then he lay down to near snooze. he did some bagging up of books (into his collection of cotton tote bags).  he poked around in the corners of his room  and wandered out in search of boxes.  he started on the air-conditioned nightmare after he found it lurking in the racks.

he figures he will find enough boxes for his packing needs if he wanders round. everything is delivered in a box these days.

the packing up of his stuff is not quite at the stage where the kipple reveals itself. the beer trophies. the discarded bus tickets and jehovah's witness leaflets. the lost socks. the dust (jesus the dust).

last night (well early morning). a dream horsemouth was at some kind of sit-down do event. a woman began singing (and she was good) she handed over to a nearby gentlemen (a 'michael bell'). now michael bell sang very well. people said they would travel a long way to hear him sing.

horsemouth is going to go off and do the bank this morning (and then the mancom in the evening).
