sunset is edging towards 5pm.
soon with the assistance of the clocks going forwards, it will be 6pm. horsemouth will have to study this transition carefully. there will presumably be a jump when the clocks go forward so there will be an hour of sunsets which will not be (unless they are revisited on the other side of the year).
in a fortnight's time we are up to nearly ten hour days (though it does look a bit snowy then).
(no) rising damp (no communal endeavour)
a friend has complained that as a result of the imposition of the decent homes standard his flat now has black mold due to the improper fitting of cavity wall insulation.
this (it is true) is one possible result of adding insulation.
a similar danger exists when raising all rental properties to an EPC (energy performance certificate) C standard by means of insulation - internal wall, external wall, cavity insulation. the air inside the flat or house becomes warmer and so can carry more moisture, this moisture is deposited on the coldest surface (leading to damp and thus, if untreated, mold).
the whole government ECO (energy company obligation) programme (where energy companies used to pay off their fines by insulating and fitting heat pumps to the homes of their poorer customers) is now looking like a disaster of botched insulation, damp, and poorly understood new technology. the government has cancelled it and is moving away from insulation towards an entirely solar panels and heat pumps approach. this is probably a mistake seeing as heat pumps are delicate beasties that must be operated in a completely different manner to people's old gas central heating and given the fact that electricity is getting on for four times the cost per kilowatt hour of heat when compared to gas. the way to get to dry and warm housing is to demolish the old stock and build again (but we all know that is not going to happen - at least not for social housing use).
you see horsemouth is still concerning himself with it despite no longer having a vehicle through which he can achieve it.
ok it's the evening of the thursday he's just fed and locked up the chickens and been over to the garage to lock that up. there's still enough light to be getting on with things (just).
it's the morning of the friday horsemouth is tempted to join in with the alternative tentacles shut down in the states (in solidarity with minnesota). he's back from the bellringing which went reasonably well (and then some pints in the angel grosmont).
he has his coffee. in a bit he will go out to put the milk in the fridge in the garage.
